“What’s a distinguished man like you doing in a place like this?”

Known as “Sin City,” Las Vegas lives up to its reputation by offering an array of indulgent experiences. At first glance, it may seem counterintuitive to suggest this vibrant city to refined gentlemen. However, there are numerous activities that men of taste can enjoy without embracing a hedonistic lifestyle or breaking the bank. In this guide and accompanying episode, we’ll cover the essentials of where to dine, where to lodge, what attire to choose, and where to unwind.

Las Vegas presents a unique blend of opulence and excitement, providing endless opportunities for gentlemen to indulge in luxury without excess. Whether it’s savoring gourmet cuisine at world-renowned restaurants or staying at the most elegant hotels, this city offers something for every refined palate.

Luxurious Accommodations in Sin City

Las Vegas offers a plethora of hotels that cater to a wide range of tastes and preferences, from the opulent MGM Grand and The Bellagio to the more modest, off-Strip accommodations. The Art of Manliness suggests booking your hotel in advance rather than opting for a walk-in reservation to secure the best rates and ensure availability.

Personally, I prefer to have my accommodations planned in advance, especially when it comes to where I’ll be sleeping. The last time I booked a hotel on the fly, I ended up with a $40 bed next to the highway—not exactly the experience I was looking for! Planning ahead is key, gentlemen.

When choosing a hotel in Las Vegas, it’s important to consider what you’ll be doing while you’re there. If you’re into the nightlife and want access to the latest amenities, a newer hotel like the Aria might be more your style. While iconic hotels like MGM and Bellagio offer a classic experience, they can feel a bit dated and focus heavily on their casinos. For a more modern experience, explore newer establishments.

One of my personal favorites is The Venetian, as I have a soft spot for Italy. During a business trip in late August, I found myself enjoying gelato at 1 am in the hotel’s main piazza. The Venetian’s architecture and ambiance make you feel like you’re in Venice, with the added charm of the Las Vegas lights.

If you prefer to stay off the Strip, there are a few things to keep in mind. Hotels on the north side, such as Circus Circus, are a bit isolated and require a car ride to reach the main attractions. Personally, I enjoy staying at The Red Rock Casino and Resort in Summerlin. While it’s a 20-minute drive from the Strip, it offers a quiet, modern experience with all the amenities you could want.

Alternatively, you can stay just off the Strip on Paradise Road. Hotels like Days Inn, Ramada, and Howard Johnson offer comfortable accommodations with continental breakfasts, just a short walk from the main attractions.

What to Wear in Sin City

Contrary to Hollywood stereotypes, you don’t need to wear a tuxedo to fit in at the best casinos in Las Vegas. However, dressing smart can enhance your experience, especially if you plan on playing at the tables. Aim for a sharp casual look that strikes the right balance between casual and formal.

It’s important for two reasons: you don’t want to look like a college student on spring break, but you also don’t want to be overdressed in a sea of casually dressed patrons. Dressing appropriately shows respect for the establishment and can help you blend in with other guests.

During the day, you can dress more casually while exploring the city. However, as evening approaches, it’s best to step up your fashion game. You’ll find that many of the nicer establishments have a higher dress code, so it pays to dress to impress.

What to Do and See in Sin City

While Las Vegas is known for its casinos, there’s much more to see and do beyond the gaming tables. Take advantage of the top-notch entertainment offered by casinos, including shows by Cirque du Soleil, David Copperfield, and Chris Angel. Additionally, explore the various attractions along the Strip, such as The Dancing Fountains at The Bellagio and the Mandalay Bay aquarium.

For a taste of “old Vegas,” head downtown to Fremont Street. Here, you’ll find classic hotels like The Golden Nugget and Plaza, as well as local live music and historic sites. Don’t miss the zip line through the Old Strip for a unique perspective of the city.

Where to Eat in Sin City

Las Vegas is a food lover’s paradise, with almost every hotel offering extravagant buffets. If buffets aren’t your style, Forbes recommends exploring the city’s diverse restaurant scene for a memorable dining experience.

One standout is The Heart Attack Grill in the downtown district, known for its indulgent burgers. However, you’ll also find a wide range of dining options in all the hotels and casinos, from high-end steakhouses to authentic international cuisine.

Eating in Las Vegas is surprisingly affordable, with prices comparable to major cities like Chicago and New York. You can enjoy high-end dining at reasonable prices, making it a culinary destination unlike any other.

In Conclusion

I believe every man should visit Las Vegas at least once in his life. Whether you go with friends for a wild adventure, with your significant other for a romantic getaway, or as a local to explore the city’s hidden gems, Las Vegas has something for everyone. Just remember to gamble responsibly, dress to impress, and enjoy all that Sin City has to offer.
